Youssef Abdelké


Born in Qamechlie, Syria in 1951, Youssef Abdelké now lives and works in Paris. He graduated from the College of Fine Arts, University of Damascus in 1976 and received a diploma in engraving from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts, Paris, in 1986. Abdelké then obtained his doctorate in plastic arts from the University of Paris VIII in 1989.


Throughout his career, he has been a vital part of the graphic art scene since 1968 including posters, logos and book covers and has written several books on the history of caricature in Syria and the Arab world. His works can be found in the National Museum of Damascus and in the collection of the Ministry of Culture in Syria. 


The works of Youssef Abdelke are in a large number of museums and institutions, including The British Museum, the Museum of Kuwait, the Shoman Foundation and the Institut du Monde Arabe.
